However, if you have a top load machine with tub capacity bigger than a front loader, then you can use it. But generally, a fair-sized front loader does the trick. So, to get this work out of the way, here are some of the steps in washing:
Step 1: Remove comforter from your bed. You can wash this separately or include this with your pillowcases if there is still more room. Remember that if you want your washer to clean this efficiently, you should give it a lot of room to tumble.
Step 2: Normally, all fabrics have washing instructions sewn on one side of it. Check your brand of comforter if it comes with that instruction. You should see instructions like hand-washed or no bleach or sun dry. If you can be washed using a washing machine, then you can use your washer. Otherwise, you might only be allowed to use dry cleaning. In this case, you have to take your comforter to the dry cleaner.
Step 3: Slightly fluff the comforter up and then dump it in your washer. Make sure you have placed it evenly. Now program the machine to the right settings. Use warm washing settings to remove any dirt and stains in it. If there is machine washing recommendation in the tag attached to the comforter, follow it.
Step 4: Allow the machine to finish washing your comforter. After it is completely finished, you can now hang it outside to dry. You can also use your dryer but if it is an electric dryer, it might take forever to dry completely. You can also dry it for a few minutes in the washer's dryer and take it out while it is still slightly damp and let the warmth of the sun finish the job for you.
All these steps are only applicable if your comforter is washer-safe. If you have a steam washer, you can use that to wash but if not, just go to your nearest dry cleaner and have it cleaned. Another option is to clean it manually. However, that would be too much work for a large comforter.

If you have ever found yourself fighting for covers at night then you can appreciate why an oversized comforter or super sized comforter would be a nice option to have. In the United States mattresses sizes are pretty standardized and usually range in sizes as shown below: Twin 39 x 75 Twin XL 39 x 80 Full 54 x 75 Queen 60 x 80 King 76 x 80
Please note that Olympic queens, Split kings and other specialty sizes are not covered here due to the smaller amount of beds sold in the USA.
Most mattresses are between and 12 and 15 inches these days with some peaking out at 22 to 24 inches high. Why do beds come in so many sizes? Of course there is a marketing story involved in addition to how some furniture makers utilize platform beds which may need higher height mattresses in order to allow comfortable bed entry. One thing to consider when buying a super king is if you will need a duvet cover to fit the super large comforter. Many bedding catalogs offer super size duvets that fit the 116 x 100 size range but most don't cover the larger super kings like 120 x 98 or 114 x 118.

First, the easy part, "Standard King Comforters" and "Eastern King Comforters" are the same size but different people use their preferred choice a King Size Mattress which has the dimension of 76 in. wide x 80 in. long. Either Standard or Eastern, they are the same thing.

What is the Largest Comforter Made?
If you have ever found yourself fighting for covers at night then you can appreciate why an oversized comforter or super sized comforter would be a nice option to have. What is Down Fill Power?
It is defined as the number of cubic inches occupied by 1 ounce of down. Fill powers above 600 define the luxury market for down comforters. When your comforter has a high fill power, it offers more warmth for less weight. But there is a top end limit for both cost and capability. Down filled products with 800 to 900 fill power are extremely expensive and represent the highest level achievable.

Remember, that the aim of a down comforter is to weigh as little as possible while providing maximum warmth. And comforters that weigh less, naturally occupy less space. So it's a trade off.
What temperature rating comforter should I get?
That's a great question, but there is no precise answer for it because people have a wide variety of comfort levels regarding temperature, especially while sleeping. If you tend to sleep "hot" then get a cooler rating and vice versa. Of course if your significant other has the opposite sleeping comfort temperature then you have to determine who's more tolerant.

What is a duvet?
Duvet is the French word for comforter. In the US, duvet commonly refers to a separate protective cover (like a giant slip cover) for your down or silk comforter. A duvet cover protects your comforter from getting soiled. This allows you the freedom to use your comforter for long periods of time without needing to wash it. It is of course much easier to just wash the duvet cover. Plus washing the entire down comforter takes away from its loft and insulation ability.
It is also easier to quickly "re-decorate" your bedroom by just changing out the color/pattern of your duvet cover.
How do I keep my comforter clean?
You want to wash your comforter as little as possible in order to retain its maximum insulation value. That is why the protection of a duvet cover can be very beneficial.
Spot wash your comforter whenever you can. You may wash your comforter at home if your machine is large enough. Be sure to thoroughly dry your comforter. It takes about twice the time to dry a comforter as it normally takes to dry one load of clothes.
For best results and peace of mind you may want to have a professional launder (wash) it. Be aware that DRY cleaning can leave an annoying but faint chemical smell.
Fluff your comforter at least once or twice a week, whenever you change the sheets is a good rule of thumb. Air out your comforter 2 or 3 times a year whenever it's cool and breezy outside (or) put it on fluff dry in your dryer - Spring and Fall cleaning are good times.
Almost all comforters are machine washable BUT read the instructions carefully. DO NOT use bleach or fabric softener (or) fabric softener in the dryer! Use very little mild soap in warm water on gentle and run your comforter through at least 2 rinse cycles to get ALL the soap out.
NEVER LINE DRY your comforter (wet clumps could develop mildew)! Always use tumble dry on low heat settings. Throw in a couple of clean tennis balls to break up the clumps in the comforter when drying. Your dryer could take 2 to 4 hours to completely do the job.
Make sure your comforter is COMPLETELY DRY before you take it out of the dryer for the last time. Also top loading washers do NOT do as good a job as side loaders because the down tends to float to the top. We recommend you have it washed professionally. How do I store my comforter?

Many people have heard of "California King Comforters" and also have heard the term "Standard King Comforters" and "Eastern King Comforter" but many people still are confused between the differences in the three.
First, the easy part, "Standard King Comforters" and "Eastern King Comforters" are the same size but different people use their preferred choice a King Size Mattress which has the dimension of 76 in. wide x 80 in. long. Either Standard or Eastern, they are the same thing.
A lot of people seem to think that the term "California King Comforter" is just the next logical step up in size progression from Twin to Queen/Full to Standard King and onto the mighty "California King Comforter".....the term Cali King Comforter even sounds pretty cool and big and bad.

Simply put, California King Comforters and Mattresses are longer and thinner and Standard King Comforters and Mattresses are shorter and wider.
